Holy Assumption Russian Church

In Old Town Kenai, Holy Assumption Russian Orthodox Church and cemetery have overlooked Cook Inlet for more than a century.

People say they’ve seen lights moving between the graves. Some hear faint chanting at night.
Others feel watched while standing on the bluff at dusk.

Do you think it’s haunted by parishioners of the past—or does the uneasy feeling come from the deeper history of the land and the what the Dena’ina people experienced during Russian colonization?

Maybe it’s just the wind…
Or maybe history doesn’t rest as quietly as we think.
